New Town

The New Town The New Town in Warsaw was built between of the XIV and XV centuries. It is located in the north from the Old Town. On the New Town’s area there are six churches, two museums and cast-iron well from the second half of XIX century (it stand here from 1958 year). Access:

The Market Square of the New Town 1
The New Town is located on the north from Old Town. The Old Town with the New Town is connected by Freta Street. The Market Square of the New Town in Warsaw was established before 1408 year. Initially it had rectangle shape. Today it is shapeless and has diverse level. The Market Square of the New Town was pulled down in 1944, now is reconstructed. It refers to buildings from the turn of the XVIII and XIX centuries. Another monuments on the Market Square of the New Town: cast-iron well from the second half of XIX century (it stand here from 1958 year).

Asia Gallery is located on the Freta street. In this place we can see interesting works of artists. This gallery is department of Museum Azji i Pacyfiku witch is located on the Solec street together with Gallery Nusantara in the Nowogrodzka street.

Museum Marii Skłodowskiej-Curie This museum is located on the Freta street (close to by/to The Market Square of the New Town). It came into being in 1967 year in a hundred anniversary or scientist’s birth. Museum presents the topics mainly connected with her life and family less with her scientific track records. In the museum building is located also Polish Chemical Association, Maria Skłodowska-Curie is an honorary member of it.

Freta street:

Freta street is the main street on the New Town in Warsaw. In the Freta there are located: Asia Museum, Museum Marii Skłodowskiej-Curie, Church St. Jack (oo. Dominikanów),
Church St Jack in Warsaw
Church St Jack (oo. Dominikanów) is located on the New Town at the Freta street. This church is the part of Dominic’s convent. It was built in 1603-1639 in baroque style. Probably John Babtysta from Trevano was the main designer of it and John from Italy has built it. In 1944 year the church was pulled down by German. It was reconstructed in the 1947-1959 in the early baroque style. The Kotowski’s chapel from the temple’s equipment is recommended to see.
Church Nawiedzenia NMP

The church was built after 1411 year in the gothic style. It is the oldest church on the New Town. It is located at the Przyrynek 2 street. It was damaged in 1939 year, and in 1944 year it was burned by German. It was reconstructed from 1947 till 1966. The church stands on the Wisła hill and from there it is wonderful view on the Praga side.

Church Sakramentek p. w. św. Kazimierza
The church was built from 1688 till 1692. it is located on the the New town at the Market Square of the New Town 2. At the beginning the Kotowski’s residence was located here. In 1688 year queen M.K. Sobieska bought this residence and gave it for the church. Church Paulinów p. w. Św. Ducha

It was built in the 1699-1717. It is located on the New Town at Nowomiejska 23 street. After war it was reconstructed in 1956. Church franciszkański p. w. św. Franciszka z Asyżu/Serafickiego

It was built in the 1679-1698 and 1713-1733. It was reconstructed in 1788 and rebuilt in 1945-1948. The church is located on the New Town. In XIX century in this convent complex was located: prison and orphanage, and also Warsaw Priesthood Academy. Convent was liquidated in 1864 and converted in garrison’s church. After First World War in the rests of buildings there was the establishments of Polish Fiat. Church St. Benon (oo. redemptorystów)

The church is located on the New Town at the Piesza 1 street. It was built in XVII century. In XIX century it was converted into the fabric. During the war the church was completely destroyed. After war in 1956-1958 it was rebuilt as a monument.
